An e-commerce giant is making a big splash in the Portland metro region.
Seattle-based Amazon has leased 303,360-square-feet of industrial space in the Majestic Brookwood Business Park in Hillsboro. According to regional public relations manager Ashley Robinson, the new facility will be a sortation center, where Amazon employees sort customer packages by zip code for delivery.
She said the company is currently hiring more than 1,000 permanent and holiday seasonal roles to staff the new site.
The building began operations just this week.
“We are excited to be part of the regional community,” she said.
Billed as the largest speculative property ever built in the Sunset Corridor, the Majestic Brookwood Business Park is a 73-acre park just south of Highway 26 along Northwest Brookwood Parkway. Ground broke on the building that Amazon leased back in April.
Majestic Realty Co. of California bought the property from the Nike Foundation in 2014 for $15 million.
Mike Thomas, senior vice president with Colliers International, and Mark McClung, a vice president with Colliers, have been representing Majestic on the project. Aaron Watt of Cushman & Wakefield in Portland represented Amazon in the deal.
The Amazon building shares the park with a 200,000-square-foot ViaWest data center, which opened its first phase in September 2015. Top Golf has also built its first Northwest location on 13 acres at the park, a 65,000-square-foot entertainment complex that opened over the summer.
